Day 1: welcome in Marrakech
Welcome at Marrakech airport, where we’ll have the pleasure of meeting and welcoming you. We’ll reach the heart of the city and accompany you in riad. Free dinner and overnight in riad.
Day 2: Marrakech, High Atlas, Taddert, Tizi n'Tichka Pass, Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou, Ourzazate, Skoura Oasis (Kasbah Amridil), Rose Valley, Dades Valley (km 324)
You’ll start the day with one of the wonderful dawns of Marrakech and after breakfast we’ll leave the city. In a very short time we’ll be in the High Atlas Mountains, which we’ll climb along a suggestive panoramic road and through several Berber villages, such as the small village of Taddert. The first stop will be the exceptional Tizi n’Tichka pass, at 2260 meters above sea level, where we’ll admire an amazing panorama. Then we’ll visit a women’s Cooperative of Argan Oil, a tree endemic of Morocco, and can observe the local Berber women which, still today, manually process the fruits. Then we’ll go in direction of the famous Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou, one of the 9 UNESCO sites in the country, and we can visit it with a local guide. We’ll have lunch in a typical restaurant and then we’ll pass through Ourzazate. We’ll reach and and we’ll flank the huge Oasis of Skoura, if you’d want we can enter inside it to visit another wonderful building typical of the Southern Morocco: Kasbah Amridil. Then we’ll go to the Rose Valley and we’ll pass through El Kelaat M’Gouna, the city famous for the cultivation of centifolia roses, that arrived here in the Middle Ages by pilgrims which had bought some seeds in Damascus. Finally we’ll reach Dades Valley and we’ll stop in a beautiful panoramic hotel, where we’ll have dinner and where we’ll sleep.
Day 3: Dades Valley, Tinghir, Todra Gorges, Tinejdad, khettara, Erfoud, Merzouga, Erg Chebbi desert (km 270).
We’ll start the day with a typical Moroccan breakfast and then we’ll continue our journey. We’ll pass through Tinghir village, which is framed by a verdant and huge palm grove and in a shortly time we’ll arrive to the majestic Todra Gorges. Here, following the river by foot, you can take a suggestive walk among the rocky walls carved into the mountain, that are 600mt high, a real wonders of nature. If you’ll be lucky you’ll meet along the way the local Berbers, women washing their clothes and shepherds walking with their flocks. After this little excursion we’ll reach Tinejdad, where we’ll have lunch. Then we’ll stop to visit the khettara, an ancient underground water system used in the past by nomadic desert tribes. Then we’ll pass through Erfoud and we’ll arrive in Merzouga, where we’ll stop to have dinn0er and to sleep in a wonderful hotel in front of Sahara desert.
Day 4: Merzouga, Dayet Srij Oasis, Khamlia village, Rissani, visit to Nomad familiy, Erg Chebbi desert (km 85)
After breakfast we’ll head to the salt lake of Dayet Srij, which fills up only during spring and autumn and in this time wonderful pink flamingos migrate here. Then we’ll reach Khamlia, a small village founded in the past by people coming from Central Africa. The essence of this place is the Gnawa music and we can appreciate it while drinking a glass of mint tea. Ten we’ll go to to Rissani and visit the local market, a place where still there’s an authentic atmosphere, very different from that in all the other souks of Morocco. We’ll visit a Berber pharmacy, the spices district, we’ll taste dates from the surrounding oasis and much more. On Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday Nomads come here to sell sheep, goats and donkeys and to buy fruit, vegetables and clothes. So if will be here during these days we’ll meet them. Walking inside the bazaar we’ll stop in several shops, where we’ll buy what the baker needs to prepare us the medfouna, the famous Berber pizza. We’ll give it and we’ll go to eat it with a nomad family, in the middle of the desert. We’ll be hosted in a tent by a family, we’ll stay few hours together and share the meal. This experience will be a very nice an it will be impressed in your mind but, above all, in your hearts. Then we’ll go to the so called “black desert”, a wonderful viewpoint and we’ll observe Sahara desert from above. Then you’ll ride your dromedary, you’ll cross the Erg Chebbi desert and enjoy a wonderful sunset on the great dune. You’ll arrive at the tent camp, you can drink a typical Berber tea and find your luggage directly inside your tent, which will be equipped with every comfort. You’ll have time to relax and after enjoy a typical Moroccan dinner. After we’ll stay under the starry sky of Sahara, sitting around a bonfire, where desert nomads will come to enchant us with drums and stories about the history of their ancient traditions.
Day 5: Erg Chebbi Desert, Draa Valley, Alnif, Taghbalte, Tazarine, Tamegroute, Zagora (km 160)
After breakfast we’ll leave the tented camp and go in direction of the Draa Valley, passing through Berber villages, as Alnif and Taghbalte. We’ll arrive in Zagora and stop in Tamegroute, where we’ll visit the ancient library and the Mausoleum of Sidi Muhammad, with more than 4,000 books kept in locked cases. We’ll also visit the pottery for which Tamegroute is famous and we’ll be able to admire the artisans working in open-air kilns. Next, we’ll come back to Zagora. Dinner and overnight in riad.
Day 6: Zagora, Tinzouline, Tamezoute, Draa Valley, Agzd, Ksar Tamnougalt (km 102)
We’ll leave Zagora in late morning, proceeding through the villages of Tinzouline and Tamezoute. We’ll travel through the Draa Valley and reach the Agzd palm grove. Here we’ll visit Ksar Tamnougalt, which stands on a small hillock surrounded by date palms. We’ll have the opportunity to have lunch with a Berber family. Next, we’ll will stop in lovely moroccan farmhouse, where you can relax. Dinner and overnight stay in farmhouse.
Day 7: Agzd, Ouaourmas, Ait Saoun, Issougrid, Ourzazate, Kasbah Telouet, Marrakech (km 262)
In the morning, after breakfast, we’ll leave the farmhouse. We’ll pass Ouaourmas and through the Ait Saoun Valley, with its ochre tones. Then we’ll reach Issougrid and pass again through Ourzazate, where we’ll have lunch. Next we’ll reach Kasbah Telouet: built in 1860 by the local Glaoua tribe, it was later expanded by Pacha Thami El Glaoui, in the first half of the 20th century. The story goes that more than 400 artisans were employed to decorate the interior walls of the halls, using zellji (the famous Moroccan tiles) and marvelous cedar wood. After we’ll come back in Marrakech and arrive in the afternoon. Free dinner and overnight stay in riad.
Day 8: Marrakech
After breakfast, you’ll start your visit of Marrakech with a local guide, you’ll admire the famous Jemaa El Fna square (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the beautiful Kotoubia Mosque. Then yvisit countless other surprising monuments, such as the Medersa of Ben Youssef, you’ll visit the largest Koranic school in all of Morocco, the imposing El Badi Palace, the sumptuous Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs (elegant mausoleum of the homonymous dynasty). You’ll also admire Bab Agnau, the only perfectly preserved gate of the walls. Next you’ll stop for lunch and finally you’ll visit the souq, mixing with the locals and the essence of everyday life. Free dinner and overnight stay in riad.
Day 9: come back home
It’s time to come back home! We’ll pick you up directly in riad about two and a half hours before your flight departs and we’ll go to Marrakech airport.
